Here are the fixtures for next 2 week guys, as you can see we're up against College who will be amped to come back hard after losing badly to Nadoes so we'll need to make sure complacency doesn't creep in and we've gotta work hard for our points.

Sunday touch is at 4.00 at the Middle campus cricket fields next to the cricket club. Please make sure that everyone attends as its important to get to know each others styles etc... See you then

Baa Baa's Open their account

Congratulations to all the guys that made it out to The Green Mile on wednesday against the Turtles. It was a great performance from all the guys fresh into the season. Such slick hands I've never seen before!

Losing talismanic Captain Mike Koen so early to injury was hard but everyone pulled their weight, especially Terre who assumed the mantle and lead form the front with a powerful performance. Playing into the wind in the first half was always going to be tough but we manned up to it and stuck it to the Turtles with intense pressure paying off in the end as Red went over for the first try of the season. The passage of play leading up to it was one of, if not the, best play I've seen in this competition over the years with the forwards rucking and mauling beautifully and the backs pulling off off-loads only Dan Carter could do... on a good day. What was great as well was the way the backs and forwards played off each other and it is really heartening to see the famiarity between players so early in the season.

The Try from Rolo was great, especially the off load and distribution from super-sub Jake and Terre himself to get the ball out to the wing where Rolo was unstoppable. Angus's try was great as it showed how well our forwards were doing from the pick and drive. After putting them under pressure and then conceding a turn-over it was great to get right back at them after their wayward kick and great placement of the ball from Stan?? in the tackle to allow Angus to go crashing over for try number 3.

The wind and perhaps a bit to much jolling in the off season got to us as despite creating chances we struggled a bit to finish but it is nothing a little bit of fitness and regaining the co-ords won't fix! All in all a great performance from the Baa Baa's and a great way to get the season off to a flying start!

Special Mentions:
-Tackle of the week- Rowan 'Rolo' Louw with what the blind, deaf and dumb ref thought was a spear tackle. Knob
-Manning up to the Task- The Front row, (Kip, Gus, Tubba and
Tony) for a great scrum and awesome line-outs, particularily Kip who is new to the prop position and scrummed his heart out and the experiment seems to have worked
Great Breaks- Shiels and Jake had some particularily great runs not taking anything away from the guys I haven't mentioned!
Leading from the Front- Terre who assumed the mantle of captaincy and kept us going forward with his passing
Balls up of the week- Me (Rory) for being put into space by Bert and dropping the ball. Idiot.
Die Hard of the week- Nic Brits for making it out to the green mile for the match. True Baa Baa right there.
Pink Panties award- Andy Heald for going to watch Chicago with his chick instead of playing.

And so it begins. Another year of Internal League Rugby, the only change being the addition of the Steinhoff brand to our jerseys and the fact that we have been deprived of external sponsors. That aside, however, the new rules for the internal league and the full ELV's being in place should make this year a cracker of a tournament! Here's hoping Baa Baa's can go all the way!

Here are the fixtures for the first week of Internal League Rugby just so that we can all have a look at some of the headline matches of the evening. The Highlight will probably be the Kopano vs Marquard match tonight as both teams are generally evenly matched though Marquard has had the better of Kopano consistently in recent years. With the new Residence rules stipulating random allocation, however, this game will be up for grabs as both res's would have been hurt by not having the merit system in place for allocation of places. Should be a cracker of a match, dont miss it!

New SEASON is here!!!

Hey buggers yet another season of Baa Baa’s rugby is here and after our dismal ending to last year, it’s a season to and rectify our name as a top Internal league team. With the loss of a few players it’s gonna be anything but easy, but rebuilding must be done and a new leaf turned over. The returning players need to step it up a notch now and show the passion and pride they did in the beginning of last year (maybe that fines meeting was a bit premature) and it is important that the touch sessions are well attended along with games.
No real transfer news at the moment except for Chad trading in his Baa Baa’s shirt for a Ubombo one?? On that note please remember Baa Baa’s is open to new players( especially front row! and ex Vodacom Cup players) and if you know anyone who wants to play and will be there every week please tell them they welcome to come to touch on Sundays. First touch session is this Sunday at 4pm, very NB!!!
First game is Wednesday 9 April against The Turtles.
It is important that the season is loads of fun, but remember loosing is never nice and definitely not fun, so lets go out there and play some beautiful rugby.

In what turned out to be quite an unfortunate night starting with many injuries and forced absentee's from the game of the season the Barbarians showed how well they could play together despit so many disruptions to the squad. In true Barbarians style, the Baa Baa's took a close loss to rivals nadoes on the chin with their heads held high. If truth be told the Baa Baa's were perhaps the better team and should have tied the game up many a time but loose hands and over eagerness got the better of the young Barbarians side. This year saw the emergence of an almost completely new Barbarians team with many a young face brought in to ensure that the Barbarians name continues to be feared in UCT internal League rugby for years to come. Importantly what the Baa Baa's did and the nadoes did not in the main crunch match of the Quarter finals was stay true to the side that had brought us all the way to the Quarter finals and not bring in any imports.

It was always going to be a close game when the Nadoes took the field with their '92 winning back line but the young Barbarians truly rose to the occasion and showed the Nadoes that often it's not just about who you have on the field but how much of a team is on the field and not merely individuals. The Baa Baa's were truly exceptional in stepping up to the game and in some instances taking on players that were twice their age and size. Though the game was lost eventually, though I don't believe it was ever truly won, the young Baa Baa's took alot of experience from the game and woe behold who we face next year. It's a pity that two of the srongest sides had to meet so early in the competition and side like Ubumbo and Cobra's pretty much got byes into the semi, however, it's all luck of the draw. Good luck to whoever comes up against Nadoes next and watch out for their mid-week signings, they'll bring whoever they can in to win.

The internal league blogspot had this to say on the match;

"The headline game of the evening was a repeat of last years final and lived up to the grudge behind it. In the end the Nadoes walked away comfortable 13-6 winners over the Barbarians despite been deservedly down to 14 men for more than half the game, after senior player Graham Barrit suffered a nasty brain freeze and earned himself a very red card. The game didn’t erupt thankfully but the tension of the game did destroy the rugby part of the game and the contest ended up tight and hard, but rather bland. The Barbarians took terrible decisions sending the ball wide when it should have stayed tight, or keeping it tight when it should have gone wide and early. Nadoes on the other hand were very astute in their decision making but faltered when it came to finishing and building momentum. Barbarians flyhalf Mauro Ciochetti, had a main performance and held his side together with a great deal of balls, maturity and two wonderful place kicks off old school sand."

Whilst I don't agree with the decision making jab I must re-iterate that our hands let us down and our over-eagerness to finish. Congratulations to the Nadoes on their win and more importantly congrats to Mauro for his highly praised performance and to Matzi for his Man of Match award and also to Terre who was awared hit of the week on the Internal league site replicated below;

Hit of the Week:
There were some big Chabalesque knock overs but the biggest hit came from the Barbarians scrumhalf, Mike Terrablanche who put in a monster front on hit on a bulky Nadoe runner.

With a new team this year the Baa Baa's of 2007 have done extremely well and with pretty much everyone from the team staying on for next year we are looking in very good form to come back and show the Nadoes exactly what it's like to take on the Mighty Baa Baa's. Rememebr guys, the season is not yet finished so please all come to touch and look out for news on next weeks games etc...

Alright boys, today's the day! The Quarter finals are finally here and we have been paired against the old enemy of Nadoes and tonight we take to the field with the aim of advancing! Carpe Diem, we sieze the day! The nadoes last game was a loss against Ubumbo, so far we are unbeaten but we'll need to work hard to keep it that way. The lowest a Barbarians side has ever finished is 3rd which is a strong history to maintain. Tonight is the time to stand up and show what the Barbarians of 2007 are made of! Tonight we go hard into every tackle! When we make a tackle we make sure he stays down! Just picture yourself making that try saving tackle, picture yourself diving over the line to score the winning try. Picture it boys because tonight we gotta make it happen, tonight we run rampant! Ok guys, it's crunch time of the season, we've been handed quite a tough quarter final opposition in the form of the grand-pa's of UCT rugby, the Nadoes, who ae an oppostion that can't be underestimated as, just when you think you have them beat, they'll bring on their '99 league winning back line with the wife and kids their to see Daddy play :) But on a serious note, this is a serious game, it's happening on the 29th of August which is next week, i.e we have a bye week this week.

Mike has been good enough to organize us a friendly game against another quarter final side, The Turtles, details of which you can see in the post below. It is important that everyone comes along to play in this game as this will be our biggest warm-up fixture of the year and will see us on the road to playing nadoes and hopefully beating them to go on to the semi's against either Wildboys or Panthers, two sides I'm confident we can beat. This game will be treated like a trial game for the game against Nadoes and, based on form the starting line-up will be decided from this game so it is neccesary to play this game like it is the final. In addition, because of the opposition we are playing it might not be possible to give evryone an equal percentage of game time as we need to keep continuity going to come out tops. That does not mean that people will not get a game nor that people will only get 5 minutes or whatever, it just means that reserves might have to be staggered to allow new people to adjust to the gmae then another brought on and so on so that we don't disrupt the flow for ourselves. This will mean maybe a 5 or ten minute loss to one or two guys which will be made up next week as we still have another two games left after this big one.

Bring along some meat and beer to the game this sunday as we'll have a little braii after the game with some of the Turtles guys and just relax before the big one. What is important to remember and I know I'm repeating myself but we have to take down the nadoes. There should be no getting ahead of ourselves here guys, we did that against Kopano and it took us a whole half to get our minds right. Till Sunday, keep well

As Sundays’ practice was a complete flop we’ve had to reschedule our contact session. I have spoken to the turtle’s management and they very keen to play against us on Sunday the 26th of august at 3 o clock, so be there at 2:30. They are a very good outfit and although they narrowly lost to The Panthers the still managed to give Cape to Rio’s a good 29-5 spanking.
This game is vitally important for our preparations for Nadoes in the knock out stages . Bring some meat, beers and your portable braais. Please it is very important to let us know if you can’t make it .

Wednesday Night Lights

Alright guys, wednesday is here, all around Cape Town guys are sharpening their studs, polishing their boots, kissing the wife goodbye and updating their last will and testament.... well not really all that dramatic but still promises to be a really good evening.

Tonight we take on Kopano which for many of us is a chance to get one back on the old res, which is something the rest of us did last week against Marquad. Pundits have likened it to the SA vs Namibia clash but we musn't get carried away. As the Bokke are doing we need to focus on playing our game, running our lines and not playing showboat rugby so that when we come up against the big sides in the Quarters we are ready. Recently Easterns lost to Turtles which puts them in serious doubt of getting through to the quarters, something thats was practically already decided at the beginning of the season, which shows that the bigger sides cannot afford to get complacent as they merely have a longer way to fall when beaten. We are expecting a full turnout despite the Bokke game and hopefully we can all go and watch that game afterwards. Till then, check out the review of tonights main game below and the build-up on the internal league blog.

Tonights main clash is Purple Cobras vs. the Wildboys at 8:00 which should be a cracker of a match. If you are thinking of watching the Springboks at Forries are even at the ground wait, just think, you can see all 50 of the Bokke tries on the highlights channel after the game and this clash promises to be one of the best of the year and a once off viewing live at the home of Baa Baa's, the Green Mile. Such esteemed news providers such as The Internal League Blogsite are dedicating all their considerable coverage and senior reporters to covering the match and the build up of the game highlighting the extent to which the South African public is clamouring for news on this historic encounter. Broadcasting rights have been sold only to UCT students, denying such broadcasters as ESPN and Supersport access to the grounds in a bid to keep the spirit of rugby alive and not bow to commercialism.

On a serious note though, these sids are both two big powerhouses, currently the Cobras sit unbeaten in the league, the only other team besides us to have that honour, whilst the Wildboys have only lost one game to the Nadoes by a whisker in which conditions and the ref played a significant part in never really letting the game get going.

For me, I think the Wildboys have the beating of the Cobras in the pack and most definately from pack set pieces such as line-outs and scrums. However, the Cobra's loose forwards are known to be quick to the breakdown which is an area that the Wildboys can oft be found wanting with their heavy pack that weighs in at 830kg (really!). The Cobra's speedy backline is their true strength, however, as they play with a nonchalonce and frivolity that comes only from having played with the same group of guys for many a year allowing them the option of ridiculous off-loads and jaw-dropping speculators which, more often than not, come off.

If the Wildboys can slow the pace of the game down and play their big heavy forwards into driving the ball up they should be able to come away with the victory however the loosies will have to up their game to contest with the Cobra's loosies. Should the Wildboys allow the Cobra's one chance to get away with their backline I don't think that there is anyone in the wildboys backline who can rally the defence and stop them and once the Cobra's slither ahead, they're deadly.

This promises to be one of the best games of the season and I definately encourage all the guys to be at the match to enjoy the great spectator rugby. Apart from that these are two sides we have a very good chance of coming up against in later rounds so it would be good to have a look at the style of rugby they are playing.

The True Test

Alright guys, Tomorrow night we play Kopano in the last game of our group stages of this years competition. Whatever happens we're through to the play-offs though we anticipate and expect a big win so as to stand us in good stead for the play-off's. Should and when we win tomorrow we will then play Nadoes in the quarter final of this years competition. This, as you can see, will be our biggest game of the competition and one which we expect to win. LAst year we lost to nadoes in the final of the competition simply by not kicking the bloody ball out when time was up and allowing them to score after 5 mins of injury time to win by one not to mention the time before that when they got a penalty in injury time and converted to beat us by one point. This year thats not happening. The team we have this year has the beating of the nadoes, of that I'm sure as I've watched them play several times and I knnow that if we do everything right we;ve got them where we want them. Nadoes are known for bringing in their older players from like, years ago, who graduated in 2000 once the knockout stages are hit but they're unable to do that this year so we've got one over them again.

We're gonna play our friendly game on Sunday this week with Baa Baa's versus Baa Baa's plus one or two recruits to make up the teams so that we can finally have some real match practice for the first time this season. Everyone is expected to be there and official times will be up later in the week.

I know the Boks are playing tomorrow night but it's only a small game and we need all guys to pitch up at the field and after we can all go watch the game ion the pub afterwards. The season is starting to get interesting now guys and if we want to lift that trophy at the end of the year we need to keep playing the way we ahve been agianst stronger opposition.

Again, just a reminder, golf shirts are here but we are slightly short so the first guys to bring me fifty bucks will get the shirt. Game tomorrow is at 6 so meet at 5 and please bring black shorts.

All right fellas, good performance on Wed. against Marquad. The score line was I think bigger than what was reflected on the internal league website but it's hard to keep track in matches where so many tries are scored but we can just be happy that our bonus point was reflected.

The game this week is going to be organized by Koen as we're gonna have a bit of a Baa Baa's friendly fixture against ourselves because we wnat to play some real opposition before going into the knockout stages as the only hard game of the season has been against Panthers in 1st semester.

Kopano fixture is going to be next week wed 15th at 6pm meet at 5pm and please all bring black shorts. If anyone has a nomination for the Pink panties award after Roscoes fine showing please let me know on the facebook group as otherwise I'll be picking one myself... I'm thinking Andy is a good choice as we haven't truly given him true credit for his terrible 'buffalo' song at fines, and he runs like Aswin Willemse and the fact that the first try against Baa Baa's this year was scored when the Marquad wing rounded him to dot down in the corner. If thats not reason enough I dunno what is!!! Till then, cheers fellas.

Fines round 2

Sorry for the late post guys but unfortunately was hanging for a good 3 days after the last fines and it's now exams so was sweating bullets for the rest of the time! Anyway, the fines was an awesome succes yet again, the entire team was there and the entire team was plastered! Andy Heald i think gets the award for being the most drunk the most quickly, Josh Ramsey for not knowing any drinking songs whatsoever gets the spirit award for still trying despite this. Andy gets the sit in the corner award too for his song "Buffalo! Buffalo! Nobody likes you!"which a grand total of 1 person (Himself) sung. It was a great night indeed and we'll have many more coming into the third term, definately safer to have [people drop you off and pick you up as graham said in the facebook group, just ask Roscoe! We have some pictures from the last game against Ikhaya which we will put up, nothing too hectic as it was taken with a small digital but always nice to see yourself on the field and have it to keep. Wearer of the pink panties next game is Roscoe (they're actually shorts don't worry, better name though) after his atrocious tits for hands in the last game, should make for a bit of an eyesore, gotta love it. Anyway, to all you guys going on hols away from home, have a great time, to all going home the same, and to all going to JHB we're definately gonna tear it up these hols in the good old name of the Baa baa's! Hope to see you guys at Durban July however as that will be a massive jol! Can everyone please send their phone numbes to me again (Rory) as I've lost them when someone stood on my phone at fines! i'm blaming terre as i reckon he was trying to use it as a platform to get some height but as of yet i have no proof for my suspicions but I'm still digging. SUPER 14 FINAL

The Super 14 final was truly on of the most historic happenings in South Africa's history of rugby. 52000 seats in the stadium and not one empty The Sharky Army was out in full on the day dressed in white overalls and painted to the max

with Baa Baa's players Rory and Roscoe in full force

The recent super 14 final was attended by Baa Baa's players Roscoe, Jamie and Rory for one helluva drunken evening. Attached is a photo of the Sharky Army of which Roscoe and Rory were honary members from the Cape Town chapter in full white overalls painted up to readily support the sharks, Roscoe even made it onto the field at half time where he was interviewed on the big screen and his quote of the year to Kobus Wiese was "oh my gosh, I've got butterflies!"- Well done Roscoe, nice cliche, i mean.... quote.

When I approached Mr. Kleinloog for comment he made the following statement... through his PR rep of course because, as we all know, he knows people!

"Well Mr. Holmes that is an interesting tale that... as usual i was shouting profanities at D-Dog Hougaard putting him off his kicking slightly and doing the usual shouting terms such as "ËEEEEEEEEAT HIM" "SHARKS FOREVER" "OLE OLE OLE", you know the ritual of such things! Then I was toasting to the boys with my draft as they ran out and I got the flasher girls to kiss the white ball I caught at the beginning of the game and they all winked at me as they protruded their bosom towards me (Not the rest of the grand stand cause they never got their ball kissed!) and then this guy approached me making the statement that I was chosen as sharks best supporter for the day and i had won R5000! All in a days work I say!"

TRY-COUNT ROUND 1
As for the next round, here are the tables detailing our standing at the end of the first pool round, us and Nadoes are in actual fact the only ones to have not had a try scored against us which is fucking awesome guys, and as you can see we have also got a very favourable try count.

We've been blessed with a solid group for the second pool stage as you'll see below the try count but these guys are definately not to be taken lightly and we'll have to start playing some more solid rugby as we move into the second half of the season.

I'm not sure how the draw for round two was done... looks like a bit of a random allocation but I'm sure that there is some wisdom behind it. As you'll see on the internal league website it seems that Scotty D's tackles made the headlines despite the massive hit by Sean Shiels on the panthers flying wing not to mention the massive midfield hits by Rolo, Broux, Matzi and co, outstanding stuff... Biased journalism is worse than no journalism i say but Baa Baa's are used to being always put in the dog box and not given deserved recognition. We'll just have to show them exactly whats cutting on the field then boys!

POOLS ROUND 2

Nest weeks game is against Ikhaya Shake and Bake day house so we're gonna want to try and run the ball but lets not get complacent here as too many sides have been known to fall on their own swords after going into a game too arrogantly. We're gonna want team performances from all fifteen guys and nothing less!!! Lets all remember to bring at least a six pack and maybe a stick of crackling or two to weash it down for the 2nd bi-weekly fines meeting! I'm gonna see if we can do the game at 7 to accomadate Mauro who has a test, if anyone else has clashes please talk to me or mike. As for me, thats all for rugby, see below for more on the Sharks game! Baa Baa's forever!

Too much talk in the press lately has been about that arrogant tit Luke Watson. As such, the important fact that the mighty sharks take on the Bulls in Durban for the 2007 Super 14 final has been neglected!

Jerseys Are go!

The jerseys have been made and we will have them for the next game against panthers!! This must be some new kinda record Baa Baa's having jerseys before the last 2 games of the season! The way that the jersey allocation will work is that for the next few games they will be returned after matches and one of the 3 managers will wash them and bring them the next week. This is just so that in case we have a shortage of regulars and we need to bring other guys in we need to have jersey's for them. Also we want to make sure that the guys who play regularily will get a jersey by the end of the season and a random who plays one or two games won't just pitch up and take home a jersey. Anyway, touch on sunday. It's our biggest game of the year so far so ALL to attend at 4:00, please bring BLACK shorts to the game on wednesday.

Whats Cooking?

Last week was supposed to be our bye week, however with inter-varsity all internal league games were cancelled last Wednesday,it not certain what is happening yet, but is 99% likely that the weeks shift up. So Panthers will have to wait another week before we beat them...Come on boys.
Touch will back this Sunday at 4, the word will go out by mouth so spread the word. This is a crucial practice as we've been off for a couple of weeks now and don't want our momentum to slip before our biggest encounter so far, missing it is not an option(come on it's only a damn hour)
Big up to the Sharks and Bulls, lets hope they finish off the Job!

Match Report, Shebeen Boys: Conditions were tough to play in on the green mile last night as the Baa Baa's took to the field against the Shebeen boys. Kicking off with the wind the Baa Baa's were immediately onto the front foot with a line out within opposing 22 after bad calling allowed the ball to drop in the middle of Shebbies players and bounce out. This seemed to set the tempo for the rest of the gmae as the Baa Baa's relentlessly pushed forward onto the shebbies line. With alot of niggling going on, particularily from the opposing flank the game quickly tutned heated. Scrumhalf Mike Terreblanche, after being called out by said flanker, responded to his critics with flair as he worked a great move on the blindside ending in the first try from Mauro (Sorry about spelling) who, in a Ruan Pienarr kick from the edge of the touchline converted his own try in stunning style.

In a surprisingly similar piece of rugby the second try was scored in much the same place with much the same run by Michael Stannard as he completed another textbook Barbarians running rugby move. With the second half being played into the wind things got harder for the Baa Baa's as passes often didn't go to hand and dropping the ball in the tackle cost us dearly. It was true that we were our own worst enemy for much of the game as the Sheebies never treatened to score though we squandered valuable opputunities. The final try of the match was a tip of the hat to rugby guru Mike Koen when his tactic of pick and drive paid off handsomely as Ryan 'Heinous' Heyns picked up from the base of the ruck and drove over the Shebbies line to score a fantastic try underneath the poles. There were some fantastic runs by Jamie Shaw, Mauro and Rheede during the game to name just a few

It is definately not an exageration to say that our defence was fantastic for this game as our line is yet to have been crossed. What was even better, however, was how the new guys are gelling with the old hands from previous years which definately showed by the fact that 2 out of 3 of our tries were scored by newbies. This I think we can attribute to a good atmosphere in the team and to the regular sunday touch at 4:00 on the C-field, lets try and be there this week even though we have a bye as it is a good oppurtunity to meet the guys you don't know in the team. I understand guys are going away for the long weekend and there is Coke fest so please let us know by e-mail, sms or facebook if that is any of you guys.

FINES!!!

After seeing home the Shebeen Boys 19-0 in a heated encounter which saw tempers boil over more than once the Baa Baa's were keen to sink a few to ease the wounds from the heavy tackles inflicted. In the first official fines meeting of the season, Justice Finesmaster Zimmermann (Roscoe) was a towering pillar of authority handing out fines and keeping the proceedings festive. After appoiting Red Rheede as choirmaster and Alex Bands keeping everyone drinking with his famous 'widget' and ruthless taking down of guys not drinking enough the evening was off to a fantastic start.

The fines evening started with the new guys in the team introducing themselves and drinking an initiation drink, prison rules were heavily enforced by Mike De Buys as he spent the whole night not talking but looking at peoples right hands to catch them in the act of Buffalo. Fine's of the evening were many and varied such as Andy Healds "Goose step and simultaneous hand-off" manuevre during the game, my fine for tightest body armour, Terre's for catching the eye of the flank and his small man syndrome not to mention Ryan Heyn's for talking about accounting. The only official business of the eveing was to appoint Rowan "Rolo" Louw as the Official Token Jock of the UCT Baa Baa's much to his complaints that Rheede deserved it because of his 'faux-hawk'.

The UCT bar echoed to the shouts and songs of the Baa Baa's who truly set the mood alight in that pub in a way that it has never been done before. Last nights fines was truly a great example of what internal league is all about, guys playing rugby and then gettin pissed together. The First official fines meeting came to a drunken end as guys couldn't hold it in anymore and rushed to the bathroom and the rugby clubs exorbitant prices eventually felled the most committed of guys. A great evening guys, we're definatley going to have another one soon! watch this space! Rememeber, bye this week but still touch on Sunday.

First Fines meeting

The first fines meeting of the Baa Baa's will now officially take place on Wednesday after the shebeen boys game. All players are asked to bring a six-pack to the game. The meeting that was previously reported would take place on the bye week has been cancelled as those who came to touch on sunday preferred the wednesday option. See everyone there!

The game this wednesday is at 19:00, please can everyone be there at 18:00. Tell all the people that you know play for Baa Baa's so that we can spread the word.

Looking at the results it seems like we are well on our way to being a strong force in this years competition yet again.

Here are the group standings so far. We're up against the Shebeen boys next and then a bye which If everyone agrees we'll have our first fines meeting whilst watching the Eastern Cape to Rio's who are our brother team.

College Game

Well done to everyone on the result of the College game, we got the points plus a bonus point for 4 tries. Our defence was awesome to keep them out as there were indeed some tough moments in the game. Only thing we need to work on really is our hands and not speculating too much as this cost us quite a few scrums in scoring oppurtunities. We can't afford that stuff later on in the season but as it was our first game together with a huge ammount of new personnel I think we did fantastically well considering. Well done to all the guys who game down and thanks to all the support too.

Remember, sundat touch this weekend at 4:00! Everyone to be there as we need to get used to playing with each other as was shown by this last game! Cheers guys.

Sunday Practice and Wed. Game

Thanks to all the guys who attended sunday practice, a big thumbs up from the big guy himself!!! Turnout was awesome and going by that I reckon we have a great season coming up ahead of us. Remeber guys, game is at 18:00 on the C-Field on Wednesday, meet at 17:00 by the stairs and bring a little spare cash for fines meeting afterwards. I'm sure Josh will knock the ball on a couple of times in the match so reckon we got our first fine right there!!! Cheers guys!

Pools And Fixtures 07 Weeks 1-4

This season is finally here and this Sunday compulsory touch on UCT fields at 4:00 is happening. As sending smses is helluva expensive when done for 25 guys every week, the website is the main mode of communication between us so please check it regularily. There will be sunday touch every weekend at 4:00pm not just this weekend.

FIXTURES WEEKS 1-4

If you're not there then you won't start the match. In addition if you're not there then we will be unable to get shirt sizes and you won't get a free golf shirt nor hear about what we're doing to get us all Tiger Tiger VIP cards so I suggest everyone attends (Do it!). See you all there. First game is this Wednesday the 18th vs College House at 18:00. Meet at the fields at 17:00 to organize starting line-up and line-outs etc...Cheers

New Recruits

This Season Baa baas have decided to add more diversity to our squad , and theres speculation that it will done by the inclusion of a lovely young lady to our ranks. The girl is rumoured to have excellent ball skills and enjoys the physical aspect of the game especially mauling guys. She's not affraid to get down to business, her most serious injuries are grazed knees and stif neck. She will no doubt be an asset to our team.

BE PREPARED

Gents, the Intetrnal league season will open next term with our first game against, as of yet, undecided opponents on April 17th. Through various sources it has been ascertained that teams have already started preparing by playing sevens rugby and touch games. As we have quite a few new faces in the side we're probably going to get together for some touch rugby during the first week of next term. As a result, everyone must be ready and must be there to get a start. There will be more details soon to come about the exact timing of the touch game but our advice is to get out the old running shoes and hit the road for a bit in between nights out, we wanna win it this year boys.

World Cup Woes

Monday saw a very dissapointing weekend of South African sport come to a close after a disasterous middle order collapse saw the Proteas slump to their first defeat at the 2007 Cricket World Cup in their first truly testing game.

After lacklustre bowling against the Australians in St. Kitts saw them reach a formidible total of 378 off 50 overs the South Africans started well with the bat with A.B de Villiers getting run out on 92 for a single he should not have taken and Graeme Smith getting to 71 before he retired hurt. Afterwards it was selfish batting from Jaques Kallis who refused to take chances and mess with his precious average that saw the momentum slowed almost to a stand still and the loss of key playes such as Gibbs, Kemp, Prince and Boucher realtively cheaply. After these losses what was looking like a nail biter finish reminiscent of 'that game' at Wanderers turned into a bore with the South Africans not even trying to narrow the gap. If the type of selfish play we saw from Kallis and the lack of back bone showed under pressure is the way the guys will play the rest of the tournament then we can look forward to another trophy-less year.

Lets hope the boys learn from this dissaster and turn it around in time!!

Internal League Structure 2007

As of this year the internal league structure is changing. There will no longer be an A and B section but rather 4 pools sorted according to last years final standings.The new format should bring out the best in internal league and make it a lot more competitive.

Below is rundown of how it will work.

Round 1: 16 Teams will be sorted into 4 pools. Each team will play 3 games over a 4 rugby week period against teams in their own pools. Teams will be sorted into pools according to the position they ended 2006 in.

Round 2: According to the results of Round 1 teams will be sorted in 4 different pools. Again each team will play 3 games over a 4 rugby week period.

Quarter finals: Every side will play. All the teams in 1st position of each pool will play against the teams in the 4th position, and every 2nd placed team will play against every 3rd placed team. Hence the 1st & 2nd placed sides from Round 2 will be competing for the Internal league Cup and the 3rd & 4th placed sides will be competing for the Internal League Bowl.

Semi finals: The Cup winners from the quarters will play the other Cup winners, whilst the losers will play each other. The same applies for the Bowl.

Finals: We are left with 8 games with each side competing for a place from 1 to 16.

Tubbas Pre-Season Training

Mike Tubba Lawrence wasted no time on his rigorous pre-season training schedule, and was in fact spotted at local "hot spot" TIN ROOF on Monday the 12th of march,getting stuck right in. He didnt let the fact that it was his 21st birthday hempen his hard work and managed to consume at least 18 beers and bottle of jack. Very dedicated man. HAPPY 21st BIRTHDAY TUBS!!!!

Super 14 Log table 18th March

The Natal Sharks officially regained their top spot position in the super 14 log thins weekend after a convincing win over the Highlanders. They regained the top spot from the Blues, tipped as the hot favourite for the cup in this years tournament along with the Sharks. Lets hope our S.A sides can go all the way!!

WORLD CUP FEVER

The Cricket World Cup opened on Tuesday with a Fine display of cricket form the host nation West Indies against the mavericks of world cricket, Pakistan. The West Indies won the match despite a shaky start to their innigns after losing Chris Gayle early on with the total only at 7. This was thanks to decent knocks by Sarwan and the youngsters of the squad providing support lower down the order. The Pakistani's, despite being set with a relatively modest total for World Cup levels, lost the match thaks to a tight and controlled bowling attack by the West Indies.

South Africa, meanwhile, will open their World Cup account against minnows Netherlands on Friday the 16th of March. Going into this World Cup as favourites over a weakend Australian squad there will be alot of pressure on South Africa to perform and after their near disasterous performance against Ireland there will be alot of nervous people in this must-win game for the national team. The Key to progressing in a group that contains Australia, Scotland and the Netherlands is, of course, to beat the smaller teams convincingly so as to compete effectively with Australia, the strongest competitor in their group.

ST. PADDY"S DAY ON THE WAY

St. Patrick's day is up and coming and for all those of you who aren't Irish and just don't know about it, it means a full day of getting plastered on your drink of choice, though, have a Guinness for posterity! This year St. Patricks day falls on this Saturady (17th March) and Forries are having a St. Patrick's day party with giveaways and specials to be had and, as we all know, they have Guinness on tap too so we can truly enjoy a 'pint with the lads'. In addition Ireland play their final game in the 6 nations this weekend with a very real chance of winning the competition and thus could use some plastic paddy support.

Join us then at Forrester's Arms, wearing green of course! Put your beer goggles on and maybe, just maybe, there'll be a fine wee bonny lass to take home with you for some St. Paddy's fun. Remember, theres nothing quite like the luck o' the Irish!!

Update on pre-season

As we all know the new season is fast approaching us. Already our jersey's are being made and sign up for the season is beginning. After the close defeat in last years final to the Nadoes which we should clearly have won though hats off to them for taking it in the final seconds, litwrally, I hope we're gearing up for a season of tough challenges and hectic tries which I believe will see us through to the final we clearly deserve to win for the first time in Baa Baa's history.

One thing that has been lacking over the past season is photo's of the Baa Baa's both on the field, such as the one in this post, and out in town on the piss. As some of you may know there is a new barbarians e-mail address (barbariansadmin@gmail.com) which I'd like to invite all of you to send your pictures to and the good ones will be published on the site where everyone can check them out and comment on them. In addition, any amusing stories from the holidays/o-week/now you guys may have send them in and we'll stick them up there just so that you can publicly humiliate your friends for the enjoyment of others.

Regarding the coming season we're thinking of having a couple of sunday touch runs just for a jol and then maybe hitting la med if the weather is any good on that particular day. Watch this space and we'll see what comes. Good luck with getting back into the lecture routine!

The Saga ends

Apparently Josh has managed to avoid doing hard time in the states and should be rejoining us all in South Africa by the 20th of February. Luckily for Josh he managed to hire sound legal representation and will thus not be subjected to any harsh man love behind bars. For some reason no one can really fathom the yank judge took pity on innocent josh and let him off without any punishment whatsoever. They're a backward people that lot. We're all very relieved to hear that Josh is now safe and sound I'm sure... Even though they may have taken all the money he earned over there, at least he's got a story out of it!

Spare a thought for our very own Josh ‘veejush’ Ramsay who, thousands of miles from home is sitting pretty waiting to hear his fate. Apparently Josh, while copiously inebriated, got into a bit of trouble with the cops. Apparently something the yank pigs frown upon up there! Josh was slapped him in cuffs.and is now still twiddling his thumbs worrying for his future. Josh, for showing the yanks just how a good true South African gentlemen behaves, we salute you! Just try make it back for rugby season.

New year for rugby

Welcome back to all returning Baa Baa’s. I hope o-week has been good to you and the freshers even better! For those who don’t know there has been a change of management this year and Rory Holmes, Chad Barker and Mike Koen have taken over the reins from Sean Mclean who has been retained as an ‘outside consultant’.

As I speak our jerseys are being made which means we’ll have them for the first game hopefully! In addition we’re also arranged Baa Baa’s golf shirts at cost price however these will have to be paid for outside of our sponsorship.. i.e by us. We’ve got Tiger Tiger on board with us this year and their sponsorship covers our jerseys and our entrance to the league though we’re also trying to see if we can’t work out a couple of extra ‘perks’ just for us Baa Baa’s.

For now, relax and let the good times of o-week roll on. I hope to see you all at Tiger with copious amounts of freshers on your arms.
